In the national panorama of the sea economy, Sicily is one of the most important regions with over 22,000 companies (11.5% of the Country). Palermo is the sixth Italian province for added value produced by the sea (equal to 1.2 billion euros), and with its 29,500 employees is the fifth in number of employees. In addition, the import-export of Sicily has a value of 22.3 billion euros.
The Quotidiano di Sicilia published an article dedicated to the short-paper recently produced by SRM and presented in Palermo. The study analyzed the Ro-Ro and cruise traffic that affect the Port System Authority of Western Sicily with its ports of Palermo, Termini Imerese, Trapani and Porto Empedocle. The study reports positive data for the port of call of the Sicilian capital, which in terms of percentage incidence (on the Ro-Ro) represents 6% of national traffic, and that in 2018 has moved about 7.4 million tons of cargo, with a growth of 5.7% compared to the previous year.
